Chapter 1: Procurement Devolves
The procurement function — as you know it — will no longer exist in 2020.
That's right. Rather than a discrete, centralized function, procurement will be decentralized along business lines in 2020. But that doesn't mean your ISM accreditation and negotiation expertise are worthless. New supply management disciplines will be carried out collaboratively by the people who set and execute strategy for a company's business units. That means there will be plenty of room on leadership teams for professionals with the right skills.
To prepare, experts advise you to:
- Cultivate a reputation as a collaborator and communicator who recognizes great ideas and can influence others.
- Imagine the infrastructure needed for such an organization, and lead the discussion that will shape it.
- Start measuring and reporting on procurement job performance by both current and future standards.
2: The New Supply Management Emerges
After a big wave of procurement outsourcing, a different animal will be left standing.
4: Instantaneous Intelligence Arrives
Better, faster, more networked, more forward-looking ... and available right when you need it.
5: Collaboration Reigns
Buyers and sellers will work together on products, services, manpower, expertise, and new ideas.
