How digital procurement at Boston University helps users make informed and efficient spending decisions

Boston University is a leading private research institution with over 34,000 students from more than 130 countries; over 10,000 faculty and staff; 17 schools and colleges; and more than 300 programs of study. The university spends nearly $900 million on technology, laboratory research, professional services, and facility operations annually.

The university set out on a digital transformation that would ultimately guide users to better procurement processes all on a single platform. Together with SAP Ariba, Boston University automated purchase order and invoice processing routines by digitalizing 60,000 outbound POs and 90,000 invoices. They empowered users to make well-informed and efficient spending decisions with guided buying capability. And by processing transactions faster, they enabled support for cash flow targets for early-payment discounts.
